We’re starting a new series on Jan 19, titled “Living a Disciplined Life”.

Here are some questions for this week’s sermon.
1– Read Romans 8:28. This verse tells us that God is working behind the scenes to fulfill HIS purpose in our lives while reminding us that our purpose is intimately connected with our relationship with Him. Can you think of a difficult situation you have experienced that God has used for you to fulfill your purpose? Example. If I had not been unjustly fired from my job, I would not have the one I have now.
2– Read Ephesians 2:10. What life experience has God used to mold you into the handiwork (masterpieceNLT) says you are today?
3– Is there an area of your life that you need to exercise more discipline to to fully live out God’s purpose in your life?
4–What do you put the most effort and discipline into on a daily basis? Do you put that much effort and discipline into fulfilling God’s purpose for your life?
5– Read Hebrews 12:1-2. What are the things that the writer says need to be done to run your race? What are the two things that stand out to you the most? How can you start doing that today?
6– Are you on the team or running the race? What is stopping you from running today?

2– Does your personal relationship with God have an impact on your priorities?
3– When was the last time you got so busy that what mattered most got left out?
4– Name three things that distract you from what is most important in your life. What can you do about them?
5– Read Acts 6:1-4. Is there something in our lives that someone else could do that would enable us to spend more time on what is most important?
6– Be honest! What area of your life do you spend the most time? Is that area the most important to you? What does your answer say about how disciplined you are with your time?
7– Read Mark 6:30-32. What are we told about the importance of rest?
8– Read Nehemiah 6:1-4. Nehemiah was doing what God had called him to do. Now reread Vs 3&4. Is there an area of your life you need to apply or even say these same words?
9– Is there an area of your life where time is being wasted because you will not fully submit it to God?

1– Does the fact that all resources we have comes from God change the way we view them?
2 — What does Deuteronomy 8:18 say about this?
3 — Are you using what God has given you to the best of your ability for His purpose? What more could you do?
4 — Read 1 Timothy 6:17-19. What does Paul say about what we have on this earth?
5- Read 1 Corinthians 3:11-15. As a believer Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our lives. What does this passage say about what we are building our lives with?
6 — We see that what seemed like a large sum of money to the men was nothing compared to the reward the Master had for them. What does this say about our view of money?
7 — The third servant hid his wealth and used none for the purpose of the master. What does this say about the servant? He was bought and paid for as a servant, but was he a true servant?
8 — What does how we use the resources we have say about our relationship with God?
9 — If you had to stand before God and give an account for what you have been given, would you hear “Well done good and faithful servant?” Why or why not.

1– In your own words, define prayer.
2–Being disciplined in prayer is something believers are expected to do according to Jesus when he says ‘when you pray’. How disciplined are you? What plan can you put in place to be more disciplined?
3– When was the last time you prayed? Read the Lord’s Prayer in VS 9-13. Does this model prayer resemble your prayers?
4– We tend to be more active in our prayer life when we have a need. Is this right or wrong? Why or why not?
5– Read Ecclesiastes 5:2. What does this say about our prayer life?
6 — A few hours before Jesus was arrested, beaten and crucified, he spent time in prayer with his disciples. Read John 17. What stands out to you about the prayer that Jesus prayed at this difficult time in his life?
7 — Read Romans 8:14-17 and Galatians 4:4-7. Does our prayer life give evidence we have this kind of relationship with God?
8 — Read Genesis 3:8-9. What does this say that sin does to our prayer life?
9 — What does Jesus say in the Lord’s prayer VS 12-15 about how unforgiveness affects our prayers?
10 — Given Jesus extra emphasis in VS 14-15 how important do you think it is?

- What is the difference between punishment and discipline?
- The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years after not crossing into the Promised Land by faith. God used those years as discipline to teach his people how to depend on Him. Can you think of a time when you were disobedient and God disciplined you to teach you to depend more on Him.
- What does Deuteronomy 8:1-10 say about God’s discipline? What does it say about discipline leading us to the point of enjoying the things He has prepared for us? Can you think of a time when your disobedience has caused you to miss something God wanted you to have?
- Read Joshua 1:1-9. God’s people have reached the same place after wandering 40 years. These verses mention a few of the things God’s people learned from their being disciplined. What are they?
- Now read Joshua 1:16. How did God’s discipline change what they did when they were again in the same situation?
- Hebrews 12:8 says that being disciplined is evidence of a father-child relationship. Read verse 8. What does this verse say about where you are in your relationship with God through Christ?
- Is there an area in your life where you are struggling with being disciplined by God?
- What is the purpose of discipline? Can you look back at a time in your life where discipline was effective? Can you share your story in a way that may encourage someone else who is struggling with the same thing?

1– Has there been a time when fear has stopped you from doing something?
2 — Read Genesis 3:1-5. How did Satan use doubt to tempt Adam and Eve?
3– Read Deuteronomy 6:10-12. What did God tell His people they would have to do to inherit the Promised Land? Based on those verses, what reason did Israel have for not crossing the Jordan River?
4 — Read Joshua 1:1-9. What God God remind Joshua of before he leads Gods people into the Promised Land.
5 — Is there something that you feel God is leading you to do but fear has stopped you?
6– Has there been a time in your life when fear has effected you decisions more than God’s Word?
7 — Looking back on your walk with Christ, has there been a time when fear kept us from what God wanted for us?
8 — Is fear keeping you from something God is leading you to do today? If so are you willing to share it with others?
